Basané Cadiene is the owner of Hips-Etc. She has been a student of Middle Eastern Dance since 2001, and has been performing for almost as long. Her interest in Middle Eastern Dance originated when she was looking for an alternate form of exercise. She quickly became enchanted with the art form and began performing with her instructor, Bambi Neito, and was a member of Bambi’s dance troupe, Hips Accepted from Sterling, Virginia. In 2004 she moved to Maryland and continued her dance education with Amara and El Naar Haninah in Gaithersburg, and danced as a member of the semi-professional troupe, RaqsRoqs! She is now a member of Sahara’s Treasure from Montgomery County, Maryland. Her performance history includes local restaurants, workshops, festivals and charity events; and she was featured in a recent live-broadcast of WMZQ radio. She placed Third in the Rising Star category at the 2003 East Coast Bellydance Classic in Virginia Beach, VA. Her teaching history includes classes for the City of Rockville, Recreation Department, the Asbury Methodist Village Retirement Community Recreation Program, City of Rockville Senior Center Fitness Programs, and workshop instruction for the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, Maryland Association for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance, and the Wise Women Foundation.
